General: This course is designed for 4.5 yrs to 13 yrs old kids.  This is the prime age to develop mental arithmetic skills.  First step towards, whole brain development. 

Recommended age group: KG - 5th Grade

Exceptions: We had few middle school kids doing this course work to have better understanding of number systems, to improve speed and improve mental ability to do calculations.

Prerequisite: 4.5 / 5 yr old needs to be able to recognize and write 0-9 before joining this course

Cost: $270.00 per level includes books per level + $30 for Abaci (tool, one time buy) shipping included within USA

On an average it takes about 4 to 6 months to finish one level of LOM’s Abacus program in physical class room.  . It can cost around $1000 for our physical classroom or online interactive sessions with live teacher options for 6 months.  In video course option, child can play video explanations as many times as needed for better understanding to complete the level.  
DISCIPLINE is the key for child to be successful in short time when using video courses. 

Make sure you have either physical abacus tool or digital one before you purchase the level. We can recommend some apps if you would like. 

WHAT LOM PROVIDES: Every level will come with video lessons and books that goes with that level. 
  

Video lessons access time: 4 months.  If needed more time, an additional charge of $59.99 per month will be applied. 

What if my child finish the level before 4 months?: Considering child can finish the level before 4 months, upon request for next level to be opened before 4 months, first level access will be removed and next level will be available once payment is received.
  

Would I get refund or roll over fees if my child finishes the level before 4 months?
NO.  Purpose of video courses is to give total flexibility so child can learn on his or her pace.  $159.99 per level is a flat rate for 4 months access to videos per level.

How much involvement is needed from a parent? : Parents need to make a game plan on when child will be working on the video lessons on regular basis. Few kids require parents to sit with them, few are independent worker, and few takes little time to understand how the process works.  It is all depend on an individual student.  Even in our physical classes or online interactive classes, we have seen a little parents involvement makes a huge difference in child’s success.  We DO NOT EXPECT parent to teach, we want them to provide a strong support to their child.  We want parent to help child play video lessons, and make sure child does the required assignments.

Can we skip any level or start from higher level: Each level is based on previous level’s skills. Every one starts from level 1.

  • The first calculation instrument, which nature put at human being disposal was his own hand/ fingers.
  • If not enough: shells, twigs, pebbles, stones and so forth.
  • Man’s need to quantify, to count and to do mathematic calculations– invented computer.
  • Long before the computer, in the Roman Empire, Ancient Asia, and other parts of the  World, man  was inventing easier and faster ways of counting and calculating.

Abacus or Abaci is an ancient Asian calculating tool that helps modern students as young as age 4 or 5 master essential math skills they will retain and use all their lives. There are many different types of Abacus and different terminologies are used around the world. We will be using the phrase called “Japanese Soroban” in this  program. 

Abacus Versus Calculator

In late 1946 a Japanese postal official highly skilled in using Japanese abacus engages in a contest with a foreign soldier in +, - and x numbers who used most modern calculator.  In four of five contests, the Japanese official with the abacus was faster, being beaten only in the multiplication problems.

Facts about human brain

Our brain is divided into two parts right brain and left brain.

The left brain controls the logical, numerical, analytical, sequential facts and remembrance whereas right brain is responsible for color, music, imagination, senses, rhyming, daydreaming, pattern and overall thinking. Left brain governs the right limbs and the right brain governs the left limbs. Conversely the action of the limbs also has an influence on the development of the brain.  

So, in order to boost overall intelligence of the cerebrum, both the right and the left brain must be trained at the same time.

Creativity will be at its greatest only when both brains are communicating and co-operating with each other.

With the use of Magnetic Resonance Imagining (MRI) researchers have proved that majority of people (90%) in the world use only the left side of the brain for their everyday activities including regular school academics, leaving the right brain under utilized and under developed.

General

This course is designed for 5 yrs to 13 yrs old kids.  This is a prime age to develop mental arithmetic skills.  First step towards, whole brain development. 

Brain development is important or say learning max out between ages from 3 to 13 and that is why we have a maximum age limit.  Any age can learn the techniques but the whole brain development can be achieved when the brain is at the early absorbing age.  And that is why the Early Learning  provides a strong foundation. 

Prerequisite

5 yr old needs to be able to recognize and write 0-9 before joining this course.

Program Structure
  • This course work is divided into 7 different levels.  All the levels are designed for approx. 3 to 4 months excpet the second level might take little longer due to the topics covered
  • After every level student's assessment will be done to make sure he/she is good to advance to next level.
  • The total duration of the course work is 30 months to 36 months (2.5 yrs to 3 yrs).  Depending upon the performances of the kids, it can take little longer or shorter.
